Fluorescein angiography of the fundus (FA) allows for the diagnosis of fundus diseases by tracking the dynamic changes in fluorescein, reflecting the circulatory patterns within the fundus. To avoid the potential risks posed by FA to patients, the process of converting retinal fundus images to fluorescein angiography images has been aided by generative adversarial networks. Nonetheless, the current methodologies are confined to the generation of fundus autofluorescence (FA) images of a single phase, leading to low resolution images that are inappropriate for accurate fundus disease diagnostics.
A network is formulated to produce high-resolution, multi-frame representations of FA. The network is structured with a low-resolution GAN (LrGAN) and a high-resolution GAN (HrGAN). LrGAN creates low-resolution, full-sized FA images with accompanying global intensity data. HrGAN subsequently processes the LrGAN-generated FA images, producing high-resolution FA patches across multiple frames. The final step involves merging the FA patches into the full-size FA images.
Our approach, leveraging both supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, exhibits enhanced quantitative and qualitative results compared to the use of individual methods. Evaluations of the proposed method's performance were conducted using quantitative metrics, including structural similarity (SSIM), normalized cross-correlation (NCC), and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). Through experimentation, the results show our method to be quantitatively superior, presenting a structural similarity of 0.7126, normalized cross-correlation of 0.6799, and a peak signal-to-noise ratio of 15.77. Experiments involving ablation also show that incorporating a shared encoder and residual channel attention mechanism into HrGAN is advantageous for creating high-resolution images.

Globally, the fruit fly Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) (Diptera: Tephritidae) is a considerable threat to fruit production. The sterile insect technique, applied after the sequential male annihilation process, has proven successful in drastically minimizing the number of feral male insects within this species. The deployment of male annihilation traps, while strategically sound, has, regrettably, resulted in the demise of numerous sterile males, thereby undermining the intended success rate of the program. The availability of males not reacting to methyl eugenol would contribute to minimizing this issue and increasing the efficacy of both strategies. We have recently established two distinct lineages of males that do not react to non-methyl eugenol. This study documents the assessment of male characteristics, including methyl eugenol responsiveness and mating proficiency, for ten-generation-bred lines.
